We are one month into 2016 already. How did that happen?! January was an uneventful month, with no travel to report. I did however spend hours upon hours researching where to go this year, while counting down the days until payday. Payday has now been and gone (along with most of my wages) but I now have two trips planned as a result! Read on for my travel plans for 2016…
MARCH: EXPLORING MORE OF EASTERN EUROPE

After browsing the Expedia sale I came across an excellent package deal for flights to Prague, Czech Republic and two nights in the 4* Hotel Yasmin just off Wenceslas Square in the New Town at the end of March. I am a little bit in love with Eastern Europe and Prague with its fairytale like architecture has been at the top of my list to visit. It may only be a flying visit with just under two full days to explore but I’m confident I can fit in all the major sites, such as the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, St Vitus Cathedral, Prague Castle and the Astronomical Clock. I can’t wait to wander around this fascinating city (and sample the beer, of course).

Iceland!! Need I say more? I am so excited about this – I have been dying to see this incredible landscape for years. Volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, waterfalls – it’s like a totally different planet. I am staying in central Reykjavik in the sleek looking Skuggi Hotel for 5 days and can’t wait to explore the city and further afield. I’ve still to narrow down the tours and activities I want to do but so far I’m thinking of doing a volcano or glacier hike, the Blue Lagoon, a Golden Circle tour and maybe a helicopter tour.
Marco Polo very kindly sent me two of their travel guides to help plan my travels this year and so far they have come in very handy at whittling down my options. Their new Prague spiral guide is ideal for travellers on the go and is itinerary based, so if you run out of time to plan your trip this has practical lists of all the sites to see in a nutshell, without any fluff. As much as I love researching destinations online, I always buy a travel guide – especially ones with pull-out maps, which this one has (you never known when your phone might die!). The Marco Polo spiral guides retail for £9.99 each and are totally jam packed with useful, up to date info. Buy online here.
MAY ONWARDS
This is where my concrete plans end. Although I have various destinations in mind, I am more likely to go where spontaneity and budget takes me. Various ideas include:
- The Amalfi Coast or Cinque Terre – I’m dying to see more of Italy
- Santorini, perhaps some Greek island hopping
- Riga and Tallinn
- Peru – Cusco and Machu Picchu (I’ve been fantasising about taking the Hiram Bingham train)
- New York, for the second time
- Cornwall, taking advantage of the new direct summer route from Glasgow to Newquay
- Isle of Skye
- Budapest, Hungary
- Slovenia
- Romania
- Malta
- Albania
As you can see, I haven’t exactly narrowed it down yet! Watch this space…
Where are you going in 2016?

I have heard alot of good things about Prague and Iceland, have fun! I have heard a comedian talk about going to Santorini (im sure it was there) and saying it was amazing. It was on hit podcast The Pete and Sebastian show.
I got free tickets to Australia (Due to a delayed flight), so planning to try and hop skotch over to New Zealand as well. Need to get it booked up soon though! Might also take advantage of the flight to Cornwall mentioned aswell!
